Firaxis Get Dragonpunk Article Pulled From PC Gamer?

In a rather bizarre turn of events, it seems Firaxis have slammed the brakes on their support for the Dragonpunk mod development team.

Dark-Fantasy and Cyberpunk collide in the Dragonpunk Universe.

PC Gamer published an article (archived) talking about the forthcoming release of the mod – an expansion for XCOM 2, before swiftly taking it back down without explanation.

At the moment, the only information seems to be via anonymous sources, who suggest that Firaxis requested PC Gamer pull the article for unknown reasons.

Thankfully, these clouds may have a silver lining; the developers are in talks with CD Projekt Red and Amazon about porting the mod over, possibly to Cyberpunk 2077.

It could prove to be a big coup for both teams; CD Projekt Red have an enviable track record with games releases and a superb reputation within the gaming community, and the Dragonpunk team clearly have the talent and resources to do something impressive. It comes at an busy time for Firaxis, as XCOM 2 has just been released on Xbox One and PS4, and Civilization VI is due before the end of the month.

It’s normal for game developers to embrace the mod community during big releases, to reassure fans that there are plans for long term support, and so this is all the more unusual. If we hear any more information, we will update the story.

Update:

We’ve reached out to the Dragonpunk developers and to 2K Games for a response.
